Physical therapy is the primary treatment for cerebellar ataxia symptoms such as gait and imbalance. Researchers tested a balance exercise program to determine if at-home treatment is a practical option for improving movement and balance in patients. Participants exhibited improvements during the 6-week training period, and almost all improvements were retained a month later. The study conclude that ataxia symptom improvement is possible with home training as long as it challenges the person’s balance.
