Researchers studied the effectiveness of using “exergames” (interactive, exercise video games) as therapy for ataxia. Participants either did four weeks of conventional physical therapy or four weeks of physical therapy with virtual reality exergames. Participants who did the exergames therapy improved their gait and posture more than those who did the conventional therapy. The results of this study suggest that using technology such as exergames can be a beneficial supplement to traditional therapy.
